The Caves of Drach (Cuevas del Drach) are one of majorca's most famous and popular tourist attractions. The caves, also known as the Dragon Caves, were discovered many centuries ago and have their fair share of Majorcan legend attached, featuring pirates, hidden treasure and dragons - hence the name.
Located on the outskirts of Porto Cristo, the Caves of Drach have been welcoming tourists for decades with spectacular stalactites and stalagmites, formed over millions of years.
There are three main caves: Cueva Negra (Black Cave), Cueva Blanca (White Cave) and Cueva Luis Salvator. Beyong cueva Luis Salvator is La Venta (The Window) which leads to a huge lake : Lago Martel (Lake Martel), and a further cave Cueva de los Franceses (Cave of the French).
The caves are illuminated to give a spectacular effect, and classical musicians play live music to further enhance the experience.
On entrance to the caves, there are steps and pathways leading down into the main caves, where you can sit and listen to a short presentation about the caves. There is a short boat trip available for tourists, and you are free to wander around and enjoy the caves at your own pace once you have paid the entrance fee. Photography is not allowed within the caves and this is enforced quite strictly.
The Caves of Drach are located about a mile south of Porto Cristo, and is well sign-posted as Cuevas del Drach.
