Santanyi, Majorca

Santanyi Resort Guide

Try Santanyi - for laid back, upmarket holidays in a less-discovered part of Majorca, packed with cultural and historical delights.

The small, peaceful village of Santanyi is surrounded by beautiful countryside in the south east of the island. The village is over 700 years old and has a perfect mixture of natural beauty and cultural attractions.

This is a very peaceful holiday destination, and the village is not especially tourist-focussed although visitors are made to feel very welcome in this relaxed and upmarket area of Majorca.

Santanyi is a great place for soaking up culture and local history. This pretty village is packed with traditional architecture, rustic houses and cobbled streets, the skyline dominated by the Parish Church of Sant Andreu in the old quarter, which can be seen from miles around.

Another notable feature is the Es Pontas stone arch at Cala Santanyi, the main beach set just outside of Santanyi. The coastline in this area is rocky and cragged, and tends to be dotted with coves. Here at Santanyi, the sea is crystal clear, vivid blue and very clean. There is an underwater cave here too, which is popular with divers.

Elsewhere around the village you'll find gift shops and designer boutiques, so there are plenty of opportunites to buy souvenirs or crafts.

There are a few art galleries around the village where you can view and also purchase artwork.

For eating out in Santanyi, there are a few options including a good selection of tapas bars and restaurants serving traditional Mallorcan cuisine as well as international dishes.

Santanyi is a fairly secluded resort - public transport isn't really an option for exploring the area. If you hire a car during your holiday, you could take a short drive north to Cala d'Or for a change of scenery, or head south to visit the sleepy coastal village of Colonia Sant Jordi.

“For a taste of Mallorcan culture and plenty of history, visit the village of Santanyi, in the south of the island.”
