Ferrocarril de Sóller is an electric locomotive train that runs from Palma de Mallorca to Sóller, on the north west coast of the island.
The route has been running daily since 1912 and passes through spectacular countryside, across plains and over bridges, over a viaduct, and a specially constructed mountain tunnel (Sierra de Alfà bia mountain range). The route is over 27km long, and the highly enjoyable journey takes one hour to complete.
The Soller train unusual in that it is 'narrow gauge', the tracks being narrower than most standard railways, at one yard wide.
The Soller railway also operates the tram service that runs for 5km from Sóller town to the coastal area of Puerto de Soller. This service has run since 1913, and its route is also very scenic, and crosses an iron bridge over the Torrent Major. The tram runs hourly throughout the day between the two towns.
